I would look for a hydraulic problem first also. Many owners don't change the fluid and filters as often as recommended. You can bring in quite a bit of contamination from external hydraulics along with condensation on the rear end/tranny. In fact, if the tractor was new to me the first thing I would do is change the fluids. That planetary gear set is operated with a hydraulic clutch through (I think) electric solenoid. Get an IH Manual. I found the IT misses quite a few differences between the 4, 5 & 6 models and the optional equipment.
