I'm not sure of this but I would assume that the way the manual shows is assuming your useing 2-6 volt batteries which wired in a series would give 12 volt to the seleniod, the way your tractor was wired is using 2-12 volt batteries which is the still suppling 12 volts but is adding the cca(cold cranking amps) of the 2 batteries together giving you more starting power. Hope this helps or someone correct me if this is wrong. Brian
