If your Cub has the adjustment at the pedal, there isn't supposed to be an adjustment inside, AFAIK. Early Cubs adjusted the pedal free play internally, but only the real early ones. Obviously it is a royal pain in the hind-end to adjust up inside.
Newer Cubs have the clutch pedal free play adjustment at the base of the pedal.
Did you adjust the fingers on the pressure plate? They are supposed to be 1-1/4" from the back surface of the pressure plate frame to the highest point on the fingers where they rub on the throwout bearing.
You can shine a light up in the hand hole, and look through the upper implement mounting bolt hole in the bell housing to see what is happening. If the hole is plugged, just poke whatever it is out; it's usually just a chunk of cork.
