I know I mentioned it before, but a friend with a JD 4640, or about the same HP (155 I believe) as the 1586 pulled a JD adjustable 8 bottom on-land. Started out at about 20" and as the tractor got tired, he adjusted back down to either 16 or 18". He still has that 4640, but now pulls the same plow with a 4wd NH and widened it back out to either 20 or 22". What he plows is mainly wheat stubble, and most of what he has is not heavy clay or anything hard to plow.
I can't see you having a problem in 95% of the soils in the country with a 6x16" on-land with duals.
