I hear you, that is what I am use to. The only thing I can think of is that it is not a magneto, but I was told it is a mag and it looks like others and I know there is no external coil. It also has a quartz? window where you can see a spark firing. The other thing I notice is that when the battery is run down it won't start when I hit the starter. It starts sometimes when I let off the starter or when I hand crank it.
