The 400 dist. will work on the m. It will run fine. The 400 may have less advance than the M was designed for (I do not know this as fact) but it will run. A antique distributor machine or a good adjustable timing light and a dwell meter can be used to get it correct. Much depends on what has been done to either the M in its history, or the 400 distributor in its history.
