Like Jim said no way to identify for sure without checking. Most have a letter or letter code at the round part where the clamps go to adjust timing. That code tells what advance curve and total was original and direction of rotation it was designed for. Trouble is IH included parts to change the advance curve in some units when piston and sleeve sets to give more power were installed. Gasoline M tractors originally came with 40 degree total advance and a letter A code. Lots were changed to 22. 400 was 25 degrees and the letter N code. Jim Becker published a article about IH distributors once. Don't remember if he included a code chart.
