In case you don't want to braze or weld your tank, there are different gas tank sealers on the market. Your local auto parts more than likely have at least one. I sealed a pretty badly rusted one and it has held for a couple of years. You clean out as much rust as you can with a short piece of chain put in the tank after you flush it out good with water, and shake it around a while. Clean out as much as possible and let dry and then pour this sealer in, swish it around and pour any excess back into the can for use next time. This is safer than using any kind of heat.
