A Hitachi 14231 alternator fits well, and is more tidy than a Delco. The wiring is the same as the delco (I would not use a one wire system) The #5 diagram in the link shows the diagram for a Faemall M. It needs to have a couple of modifications and an explanation. The Delco Shown has two small terminals. marked 1 and 2. The #1 terminal is L on the Hitachi. The #2 is equal to the S terminal. Use insulated 1/4" female spade terminals to avoid the connectors touching in the alternator. You will need to reverse the leads on the amp meter. You will reverse the leads on the coil to match the diagram. You will need to add a ballast resistor (Chevy 64 V8 will do fine) as shown in the diagram ubless you use a 12 volt coil with no resistor needed. The diode can be a little thin in the wires. Putting it into the system and soldering the leads so that it forms a Z makes the leads double back on the diode and when taped up makes it stiff and less prone to breaking. (make sure the Band end of the diode (elecrtically) faces the alternator. All bulbs need to be replaced with 12volt. Using LED headlights makes real light to drive by! and last hundreds of times longer than regular bulbs. Search the net for the correct base and shape. All other connections remain the same. The starter and relay will work fine and spin correctly with reversed battery connections (negative ground) Jim
