ALL 04/06 series (404, 2404, 504, 2504, 606, 2606 early 656, 706, 2706, 806, 2806 and 1206, 21206 emblems were gold from the vendor. The "gold" was an anodized protective coating applied to the bare aluminum emblem before painting of the white or black. This anodized coating faded to the bare aluminum base plate at varying timelines due the poor manufacturing process standards and 1960"s quality control at the vendor that IH used. The 1206 emblems have a thicker coating of anodizing likely achieved to length of the submersion. The 1206"s were supposed to stay "gold". IH did not care if the other series emblems faded. Look on the back of your silver 706 emblem, it will be anodized gold. The new aftermarket (asain sourced) "silver" emblems are silver because the approval process for those items did not go through proper channels that knew what the originals were from the IH blue prints. You will also notice they are not as defined in any of the raised areas and angles as the originals. The new gold 1206"s are made from the same vendor now that did the originals, using the exact same dies and IH specs from 1966. Your "gold" 706 emblem is either a newer one purchased from NOS dealer stock at some point well after the tractor came out or was one of those "Friday afternoon" emblems that stayed in the solution all weekend.
