From what I've heard it all depended on the owner on how well the engine lasted. If the owner let it warm up and cool down properly, they were great engines. Signs to look for is oil in water, water in oil, and bubbles in radiator. I just bought a 1957 450 diesel and it seems to run good. One thing tho, rebuilding or putting seals in the injection pumps is expensive. I had to put a new seal in the primary pump and it cost $100. But it does start good( 15* the other morning and it started right up on gas)
