I just discovered something yesterday in connecting hydraulic hoses to my International cylinder. I think I have this straight. There's pipe threads, and then there's hose / O-ring threads, that correspond to straight threads. I think. Anyway, if you have tapered pipe threads, Teflon tape will seal, is recommended, and will not cause leaks. If you have the straight threads / O-ring threads, do not use tape. The O-ring makes the seal, and all it needs as I believe, is some hydraulic fluid as a lube. I think I have that correct.
