My Farmall M, which is set up to run on kerosene pulls a 10 foot Disc Harrow Set (40 discs) without hassle if not in a hurry. If you expect to run in second or third gear in heavy soil, the tractor and machine will be put under un-neccesary stress. First gear = no worries, even in the very hard soil here. We plough with a GL-70 Disc Plough, which is almost identical to a McCormick-Deering Number 34 Tractor Disc Plow. It is fitted with five 28" discs and the Farmall M handles it just fine, once again in first gear. All a question of how fast do you want to operate. I don't worry about working quickly. We have been using the same plough, harrows and tractor for over sixty years and they all still work. The photograph shows our two Farmall M tractors working, one with the 5 disc plough and the other with the 40 disc (10 ft) harrows.
