This works for me. Move the 3 slider gears close to where they would be in neutral. Have the shift forks in neutral. use at least two 8 to 10 inch bolts with heads removed in top cover mounting holes in the transmission housing. Use a hoist attached to the cover and slowly lower over the line up dowels keeping the top level. When the forks get to the point of going in the gear slots. Shine a light, use a long screwdriver and slide gears in line if needed. Also make sure the forks don't come down on any of the gear teeth before getting to the sliding gear slots. When gears are lined up with the forks go on down with the top.
