Also look at the type of front end it has....tie rods vs. ball joints. The ball joints were the 1947-1950 or 1951 models.
There are casting codes on each large cast part that the factory had to cast (ie, transmission, torque tube (bellhousing), engine block, head, final drives, front bolster, etc. ). Those letter/number combos will provide you when the part was cast at the factory and that will tell you the approximate year of the tractor. It will also tell you if someone had replaced parts from another tractor over the years (not likely they would go to the trouble to match from same year parts tractor). Research the Casting Codes for Farmall Tractors and you'll see how to read them and what to look for.
