If your antique pulling club works on 'percentages'(as does ours) rather than 'classes'/sheer distance,then you may acctually hurt yourself.the tractor will weigh more,thus haveing to pull more wt to get the same percentage.You need to find the balance to where you run out of traction just before you run out of power.If you spin way early,you do need wt.If you run out of power way before you spin.then you need less wt.'nother thing to do is to let air out of the tires-make em real squatty.That will give a much biggewr footprint,thus giveing more traction.and a longer/better pull. Our local club works on percentages,does not use wt classes.Often times a smaller tractor will pull a much larger percentage than a big one,'winning' the pull.Granted the bigger/heavier tractors pull further,but not as much percentage.
