I have a '49 cub which was hard starting and thought it was the spark and the mag. I run the cub full throddle and mow 5 acres of grass with a Woods Mod. 59. I found the problem to be the unleaded gas and the soft valve seats. The compression was off and I lapped the valves and no more problem for a year or so....... then I finially had the hard seats installed and no more hard starting. If the tractor was run hard and long on leaded gas .......check the compression.
