What do you mean when you say it runs hot?? With the themo syphon system (no water pump) and a non pressurized radiator, it's normal for them to lose some coolant and also maybe to boil some, especially under a heavy load in hot weather. If you are only occasionally having to add coolant, that is probably normal.
