I learned that by pitching the bundles onto the wagon I was a "spiker". I also saw, but have forgotten, how to lay a load so it didn't fall off while the mules were hauling it to the J D "A" powering the belt of the McCormick Deering threshing machine. I'll never forget the heat, the chaff, nor the thresherman's lunch at noon! One day about a dozen of us threshed about 600 bushels in a big day. Today a single individual with a decent combine and crop can do that in a few minutes. But it was an interesting experience for me.
