Bryon - Just the opposite! The higher the RPM, the further ahead of (before) TDC ignition should occur. If ignition is less advanced than spec, the motor will lose power and the exhaust will run hot (manifold will turn red and you'll see flame in the exhaust gases). Ignition advance on these tractors is strictly a function of RPM - there's no vacuum advance like on a car. This is why they sometimes backfire on a quick throttle closure when running at speed.
