This was an old safety recall, at least from the 60's, when recalls wern't the vogue. There were apparently a lot of fires from sloshing gas coming out of the tank through the vent hole. Maybe from over-filled tanks. I think it is especially a concern on the Cub/A/B/C where you have a source of ignition (the starter switch) under the side of the gas tank. I've never had gas run back to the switch on an H or M but I've had it come over the side of the tank and get on the starter on a C. The new caps do seem to keep the gas in better. One fire is too many on your own tractor. I burned up a C one time overfilling it and spilling gas on the starter. I tried to start it without washing the starter off. The starter sparked the gas. You don't want to see flames up the side of your tractor. When I hit it with a fire extinguisher the shock burst the fuel bowl, and hot gas spewed out the bottom of the tank. Soon the rear tires caught fire. I got a chain on it and pulled it away from the barn, but it was a complete loss. Several of my tractors came with the safety caps. I have added them to others. I still operate a few with the factory caps but don't fill them to the neck.
