I don't think there is much that can be done within the steering box. Had mine apart a couple of years ago and the internal parts were fairly tight. The box itself had a considerable amount of wear at the top hole for the steering column and some wear in the hole for the pitman (output) shaft. If I remember correctly, there are no bushings used on the shafts. A lot of slop in the steering system was found at the worn holes in the rectangular block that connects the pitman arm to the drag link. I have also seen several of them where the pitman arm is loose on the spline on the output shaft of the steering box. Did you check all of these items to ensure that the play is not form other points in the steering system?
