The other side of that C-clip, the part with the pie-shape segment, is still in there someplace, I'd sure find it. Don't know anything about 706, but that clip ought to clip into a groove in a shaft. Might be nothing holding the shaft now. Just FYI, but I found on a Massey the best thickest replacement c-clip I could find was from a JD dealer.
