your 49 M, when new, was equiped with a 6 volt positive ground system. if no changes have been made to the tractor, it is correct. alot of electrical conversions such as 6 to 12 volt, and positive to negative ground and so on have been done to these older tractors. bottom line is its correct as long as its the original system. if conversions have been made, then its hard to tell what its suppose to be without some investigation and a little inspecting.
