Cam Timing

With so maney old tractors being restored the question has come up I do I check cam timing with out taking off timing cover. There is a way for 4 & 6 cylinders. I only have information for the 4 cylinders now will post 6 latter.
! turn no 1 cylinder TDC, from the front of the engine valve 1&2 should have clearence, also valve 3 7 5 should have clearince, then turn engine 180 degrees to TDC valves 8,7,6 & 4 should have clearence. I use to use this for seting the valves back in the 60,s & 70,s you can use to set valves and save time turning engine for each cylinder. If the cam is off just 1 tooth you will be able to hear it when the engine runs so iof cam was not set by the timing marks it would be hard to get cam off 180 degrees so 4 would be no 1 as some one asked. As I said I will get the right info for the 6cyl this is go for all with 1342 order and the 6 good for 153624 order
