Thanks one and all for your thoughts. Looked things over again and finally figured out a way to see the level on the stick. Looks as though there's more in there than I thought, and maybe that's the major problem with the stuff coming out the vent. Guess I'll try to drain just the excess out, which is a pain and will be a mess, but will maybe stop it from blowing out the vent. We'll see. High level doesn't explain the cold weather problem, so I guess either a plugged screen or an air leak remain as possibilities. Guess I'll see how it behaves with the proper amount of oil before deciding where to go further, if anywhere. Thanks again for your input.
