Several years ago when I went to buy parts for a JD that was sold new in 1980, the parts manager was able to tell me the date it was sold, the original owners name and address, and the name of the original dealership, that was located in another state. He was able to do that with the serial number. Perhaps, JD dealers keep records of used tractors as well. Find a friendly JD parts man and see if he could run your information, be that, serial number, date sold, dealer traded to, etc. Might be good to have the serial numbers for both the IH and JD(traded for) tractors.
