It is the cost factor for the ware parts . Even back in there day a set of points would last only so long in our ground and it was not uncommon to have to change them out every couple days . Then ya had the shear then the shin , where as a super chief you have the shear and the shim , no point to buy . Today finding th point around here is a problem and best take your NITRO pills with ya when ya see the price . Oh and a slat bottom just don't get it around here . and have you priced Moldboards lately the twenty dollar Moldboards are long gone as they are now pushen over two hundred buck. Now since you are just play plowing you may get ten years out of your wear parts , But if we went back to plowing everything we would go thru no less then three sets of shears X5 and a couple sets of shins and every other year all the rest of the wear parts not to mention the extra fuel burnt . So for now the OLD moldboard plow sets in the weeds and for tillage we have a deep tillage tool that we only use once every couple years . And no till .We can replace five 7.5 inch tiger points three times for less then a total rebuild of the moldboard plow a lot less and cover more acres in less time so that means less fuel . Now the down side to this is since using less fuel we fell off the rag head Christmas card mailing list.
