The SMTA hood is a wee bit longer than a stock M hood by a couple of inches or so, don't remember exactly. The change over to the SMTA style bolster required the hood to be longer.
When I first bought my M, it was directly oppisite to what Biggerred has.
Mine had the SMTA bolster and longer hood, but not an SMTA, just a stock M.
Biggerred, if you'll be looking for a SMTA bolster later on, I'll let you have mine real cheap, $50. It just sits there taking up space. As heavy as it is, it would have to be a local pickup though.
