I suspected the same thing. Years ago, I measured a WD-9 pump with the intention of putting it on a WD-6 .it looked like it should fit ..but the mounting holes were not where they needed to be. I would bet that a W-9 to M hydraulic pump transplant would have the same problem.
As for the aftermarket websites that say it should fit, they often have errors in the list of applications. The safest bet is to check the part numbers in the original IH parts manuals and see if they match.
