I am betting a lot of people are going to find problems like this come warm weather. We had one he-- of a cold and damp winter and any half a--s problem is gonna show up to bust our butts. Check for corrosion on your little contacts in side the dist. cap. The CHEEEEEP caps have aluminum where the good ones are copper. Look at the rotor and that little carbon. LOADS of headaches!!! Spray the cap inside with a little brake cleaner to remove any oil or grease. This will cause the spark to run around inside the cap. Points are another thing and also a distributer in need of a rebuild is the last stop. If this is a 6 volt tractor the problem factor just went up. Everything needs to be clean and solid.
