you fill the front of pistons through spark plug holes ... same place water enters and rust forms. takes a lot to fill crankcase and seldom does good. diesel is pretty useless for that anyhow. try kerosene, or auto trans oil, mystery oil. anything is better than diesel. don't you cover exhaust pipe?
