Closed and open refer to valve type as in open center and closed center. Four port valves will have two that go to the cylinder, and one for the inlet, and one for the return. Open center (plus tendem center) allows for flow in and out of the valve when the lever is in the center position. Closed center shuts off flow when the lever is in the center position. I know nothing about the hydraulic system on a 806, but I doubt if you could use closed center valves on a tractor of that vintage. They usually require additional components such as accumulators and unloaders. Request a catatog from Roberts Electric Co. 312 829 1365. There are three pages of hydraulic principles, applications, and easy to use selector charts that assist one in designing good circuits. They also sell reasonably priced components, new and surplus.
