first thing is , I said it was carbon build up in #3 cyl., that's why you have a higher reading. next I said to spray in water through intake when up to operating temp at high idle. then you set points and timing. THEN you adjust carb last on the list , that is the order to follow. carb is the last thing to adjust. the dieseling is due to carbon in cyl.'s. other than that it looks like a normal 60 year old engine that was not cleaned. I presume you need a rad cleaning also , check the fins for being plugged with dirt as that's the first step . if clean and good air flow then it needs to come off and get a core cleaning. ooh, and it appears like the wrong plug wires. you need the wire core not carbon automotive wires. was the valve lash out much? .017 hot. and for the carb it needs to come off and be soaked in carb cleaner. has crude in bottom interfering main jet. set the main jet on botton at 21/2 - 3 turns out and mixture about 3/4-1 turn out. this is a good setting and will take slight fine tuning once running. good luck you have homework now.
