I would not necessarily think a battery charger would supply enough juice to operate the starter when hooked direct to starter on the floor. A little charger could be as few as 2 amps.
Use jumper cables hooked to a good charged battery. Then go direct to starter with jumper cables. (note: place battery as far away from starter as you can so sparks from you touching the starter with jumper cables does not accidentally ignite battery offgassing).
