OK to replace mag with coil?

Rather than spending the bucks to get my weak sparking mag fixed are there any problems with substituting a 12V coil (I have a converted 12V Farmall M)and using the original points and condenser? Like adding a ballast, etc.? I already have a good coil. Thanks
