Is the charging system working?
The reason I ask is that there is typically a flexible, braided copper wire that jumpers from the regulator frame to the tractor chassis mounting area where the rubber mounts attach, and once this breaks the charging system no longer charges.
I suppose, if you are mechanically adept, you cold bolt some new strips of rubber belting in place of the (rotten) factory stuff and save the cost of a regulator.
Otherwise, you are stuck for a new one.
Regulators do NOT need to be polarized. EVER. Under certain circumstances, generators DO. (If they've been dis-assembled or sat unused for YEARS.)
Often, this is done at the voltage regulator, for easy access to the necessary terminals/voltage.
Since this is a Delco "A" circuit system, momentarily jumping "BATT" and ARM (or"GEN) at the voltage regulator will polarize the GENERATOR.
Which you should NOT need to do, if simply replacing the VR.
But, if done as directed, it won't HURT anything IF you polarize the genny.
