The only advice I can offer right now is to pay closer attention to what's happening, and come back with a better description of the problem.
"Binding on the front drive chain" really doesn't paint a very clear picture, which is probably why you haven't gotten any responses yet.
What is the "front drive chain?" I'm pretty familiar with 56 planters and I'm not sure which chain you consider the "front" because they're all pretty much in the middle of the planter. Do you mean the chain that runs from the wheel? Do you mean the fertilizer drive chain? Do you mean the seed drive chain?
What exactly is happening when it binds up? Parts should be flying, or pins should be shearing. The drivetrain on those 56 planters is not strong enough to slide the wheels, especially if you're loaded with fertilizer.
The plates certainly wouldn't be the problem. They're plastic. If they bound up, the planter would just shred them. Take the seed boxes off and run the planter dry for a ways to see if it still binds up.
Have you taken a wrench and turned the shafts by hand to see if you can make it bind up?

Flax provided the fibre which w
