I've got an M that wants to frost, and a SM that doesn't, so it's obvious that there is some factor that's causing this in some tractors and not others. As Bob M says, block the flow of air through the radiator. On the M in cold damp weather, I've had good success blocking the entire front grill until the tractor gets warm and using a shield that extends down the left side of the engine. I cut a piece of tempered masonite that slides under the hood, outside the shield around the fan, and sits on top of the frame rail. On mine, it's held in place at the bottom by the edge of the loader bracket. This serves 3 functions: 1) the tractor warms up faster. 2)the blast of cold air past the carburetor is diminished with the radiator blocked. 3) what heat comes from the engine is kept next to the carb. I'm in total agreement with the previous posts that a torch is NOT the best way to warm that carb and intake manifold! An old hairdryer works fine on mine, and I usually put it on the tractor to warm the carb for a few minutes before starting it. If you're experiencing serious icing, there may be some other factors involved here that we're not considering. Don't forget to leave the throttle about 1/3 open after killing the engine. That way it can't freeze shut!

We traveled for six and a half hours to our destination - a little country town with a population of no more then one hundred and fifty people (57 of them being children under the age of thirteen). We arrived hoping to meet up with a man we knew had over one
