They will crank slow if you have small battery cables. 6 volt systems need 00 gauge cables. Easiest source is welding lead cables. Clean and solder all battery cable ends. Then mount the ground, which should be the positive side of the battery, directly to one of the bolts that mounts the starter to the frame. Thatll get you somewhere close to turning over faster(given your starter is in good shape.)
