I have started taking apart the engine on a 1957 TD-6 that I have had sitting around. Engine ran well when it came here but then there was a bang of sorts and it stopped and was stuck solid. I have dropped the oil pan and there is pieces of the front most piston in the pan and the rod is jammed against the block where it meets the oil pan. There are no metal shavings or other debris in the pan, very clean. It is a very nice machine and I would like to get it back into use...price within reason, but I am willing to put a few bucks into it. Can you give me an idea of what to look for that might have caused this to happen? I am not a tear down the engine mechanic. More of a "I can get it running if it turns" kind of mechanic. But I would like to learn and this is a chance to do that. I am thinking of pulling the head to check for damage and see if anything is in the cylinder up above. Any suggestions on where to go next or opinions gratefully accepted.
