Well the bar is 1 and .125 one side and 1 inch other. The broken piece slipped out with a little help. I seen what appeared to be replacement bars at tractor supply so I am off to see them in a day or two. Evidently different whip mower manufactures assembled pto shafts as they seen fit. Thanks to all that contributed, I am better informed.
This "Joint" should be a slip joint and the remainder of the square shaft should pull out once you get the twisted shaft started out of the end slightly. Check the shaft for being square or about 1/8 inch more in one dimension? They will have one dimension a little larger and cannot/should not go together but one way. This keeps the universal joints aligned. Be careful to repair the shaft in the correct alignment.[/quote]
