UPDATE: A few hours ago, I unbolted the breather tube from the cover on the side of the block, and looked into it: solid, dried clay, from dirt daubers. Took me several minutes to get it all out. I put it back on and started the engine--totally different engine. I ran it for thirty minutes, not a drop of oil out of the exhaust, a little smoke after about ten minutes, not much, plus it idled rock steady. Before it was up and down, up and down. Thanks, Centex.
