I have an IH hay loader that I play with sometimes. They are made to be pulled with the wagon so they hitch to the back. To have a wagon set up correctly there should be a short rack (maybe 4 ft high) on the back of the wagon and the normal height rack that is on the back for bales put on the front. Someone rides on the wagon with a fork to move the have around the wagon. I don't know what puts yours in gear but mine has to be put in gear on both wheels - other wise the loader isn't working on corners. It takes some practice to make corners with the hay loader that far from the tractor (or team of horses).
