Im kind of with MK is this. I wonder if shes wired correct??
For starters: If it had a Cutout Relay and a LHDB (Low or High Charge) light switch the gennys FLD post wires to that switch HOWEVER if it has a full fledged Voltage Regulator the gennys FLD wires to the VR and NOT up to the light switch.
If its wired right the BAT terminal on a VR or Relay wires to the ammeters Load terminal while its other Supply terminal eventually gets to the hot ungrounded battery post, often by being wired to the big battery cable on the starter switch. The charge goes through the ammeter then gets to the battery.
Not knowing if its wired right Im hesitant but remember a good charged battery should read around 6.3 volts setting but if coupled to a good charging system and shes running at high RPM Id expect the voltage to rise to at least 6.5 up to around 7 volts depending on RPM and battery and genny and VR.
Once shes wired right run my Troubleshooting Procedure linked below to see if non charging is fault of genny or VR
