Back in the '50s my dad had a cedar swamp cleared to make a pasture, and needed to disk it up with a disk tiller behind his '47 JD B. Of course he got into trouble right away, getting stuck in the muck. He figured that he could get a set of steel wheels and mount them on the axles outside the rubber wheels. That way, as the rubber started to spin out the steel would dig in and help him out. Well, he never found the steel wheels, but he was able to borrow a set of similar sized rubber tires, and dualed them up. Worked well, and he got his disking done without getting stuck. The neighbors were rolling in the aisles with laughter. Who ever heard of dual wheels on a tractor? Now their sons and grandsons are running duals and 4wd and 4wd with duals and even triples, and nobody is laughing at them.
