706, 806, 756, 856... any of those in a diesel would be a logical step up.
An early 706 diesel would use the same filters, as both tractors run the D282 diesel. The engine filters are completely different on the other models.
Frankly a 706 diesel and possibly even a 756 would not be much of a step up from your 656 power wise. I would shoot for an 806 or 856. Not only to get more power, but also to get away from the D282 and its potential starting issues, and the D310 and the potential bank-braking overhaul cost, with the distinct possibility of not being able to get parts for the injection pump.
