I have a 1958 cub lowboy. It has been used since 1969 to mow 6 acres at the farm. I run it in 2nd gear, unless I have alot of obstacles or really tall grass (12" high). You cannot bush hog, but in quack grass it will run fine. The tractor has been rebuilt twice in it"s life, the second time was just 4 years ago. Key issue, make very sure that you have the mower sloping forward so that the blades cut when at the front of the mower and have plenty of clearance when the tip of the blade is rearward. The killer on Cub mowers is when the blades are always in contact with grass and the resistance sucks the HP out of the tractor. I like to tip mine on a 1-2" downward slope over the whole mower. By the way, I have lots of hills to mow!

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
