Pete, I hope someone will post an easier solution...but in the meantime you might look at taking the trans cover off and grinding down and drilling these out then retapping for new studs. It's been a lot of years, but I have had the trans cover off my C and it is beginning to appear I will have to replace a severely rusted tool box with heavily rusted bolts in the future, so I may end up in the same situation.
