NJ TOM, hay not so quick,Unless that 300 has been run out of oil, or been severley neglected on the oil change intervals. my guess is that crankshaft is still good. Yes u have to totally disasemble the bottom end to get the crankshaft out. First of all take a oil sample and send it in to a lab if u have the time,it will take about a week to get your results back, and you can usually call the lab, to save a little mailing time.You can mic the rod journals, with the engine in the tractor, but impossible to get a micrometer on the main brg journals!If your going to do this by your self, you better get a I@T shop service book.
